SIA leads Maldives tourism recovery efforts

SINGAPORE Airlines (SIA) together with nine resorts in the Maldives, has launched the SIA Maldives Holiday promotion as part of a tourism recovery programme post-tsunami. The initiative is in collaboration with the Maldives Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB).

The promotion is available in Singapore, Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippines and Australia, from now until April 4. The airline did not say how large the discounts are. Packages are available at SIA offices and travel agents.

SIA executive vice-president, marketing and the regions, Mr Huang Cheng Eng, said: “Many resorts in the Maldives are more than ready to receive visitors, with full facilities and a complete suite of resort activities. They have been unscathed or suffer minimal damage from the tsunami...it is important for us to provide a united push to restore tourist confidence, to bring visitors back to the paradise islands."

According to MTPB, tourism contributes 33 per cent to the country's gross domestic product.

The properties involve are: Biyadhoo Island, Villavaru Resort, Club Rannalhi, Full Moon Maldives, Laguna Maldives, Kurumba Maldives, Baros Maldives, Angsana Resort & Spa and Banyan Tree Maldives.
