Bali courts Indian honeymooners
Mimi Hudoyo, Bali  (2005-11-28)

THE Bali Tourism Authority and the Bali Tourism Board are leading a roadshow to Mumbai and New Delhi from December 5 to 9 to capitalise on India being granted visa-on-arrival rights.

Roadshow co-ordinator, Ms Narima Yusof, said: "As soon as India was announced as one of the visa-on-arrival recipients earlier this year, the Bali regional government and the industry started planning programmes to tap the market. This roadshow is one of them, and we have just learnt that Garuda Indonesia is working on opening services to India."

Quoting data from PATA, Ms Yusof said some 7.5 million Indians travelled overseas this year, with some 65,000 honeymooners. They go to places such as Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, South Africa, Canada and the UK.

"There is no data on how many of them going to Indonesia. One of the markets we want to tap is this honeymoon market," Ms Yusof said.

Some 20 delegates, comprising travel agents, hoteliers and government officials (from the tourism authority and the regional office of the Department of Industry) will make a presentation and hold tabletop meetings in each city.

"We are working with the Mumbai Conference Management Company to organise the event and are expecting between 45 and 50 outbound operators to attend the event in each city," Ms Yusof said.
