Indonesians hot for Vietnam

Mimi Hudoyo, Davao City  (2006-01-23)

INDONESIAN travellers are starting to look at emerging ASEAN destinations such as Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, having visited Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

Improved air access between Indonesia and Vietnam provided by Garuda Indonesia, Singapore Airlines and Vietnam Airlines has supported the interest.

MG Holiday director of sales and marketing, Mr Eddy Yeo, said Vietnam, being a new destination and the fact no visa was required seemed to have attracted interest. "Our eight-day Vietnam mono-package is selling quite well," Mr Yeo said.

Indoreps Travel Services' director, Mr Elgin Agrigento, added: "Vietnam has attracted attention as Indonesian businesses have entered the country in the last couple of years. It is, therefore, attracting both business and leisure traffic." He added interest has developed even beyond Vietnam as obtaining a visa to Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos is also easy.
