'Human' capital triumphs at hotel investment conference

HUMAN capital, and carbon emissions, were the issues that resonated through the 10th Asia Pacific Hotel Investment Conference organised and hosted by Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels this morning.

During panel sessions, it was established that the region lacked not the financial capital to fund hotel growth - finance was simply "flushing" through Asia for these projects - the problem was with human capital, and a growing sense of responsibility among hotel chains to distinguish what's growth, and what's development, the latter being nobler because it took into account qualitative, not merely quantitative, aspects of growth.

Meanwhile, Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels named InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) CEO for Asia-Pacific, Mr Patrick Imbardelli, as its Hotelier of the Year.

In an interview with TTG Asia, Mr Imbardelli singled out as his biggest achievement building a successful team that had helped IHG grew since he took his role at IHG Asia-Pacific in 2003. Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels commended him for innovative strategies such as the 75:25 per cent joint venture between IHG and All Nippon Airways to grow IHG in Japan further, and the franchise model for the Holiday Inn Express, to grow the brand further in China.
