INDONESIA'S Ministry of Culture and Tourism will open a representative office in Kuala Lumpur by the end of April.

The ministry's deputy director of promotion for ASEAN, Ms Esthy Reko Astuty, said it would be in charge of promoting Indonesia and disseminate information about Visit Indonesia Year (VIY) 2008.

Fifty Indonesian sellers will participate at the three-day Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) consumer fair, starting tomorrow at Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

With no official launch of VIY in Malaysia or promotions to create awareness, Indonesia Embassy counsellor (information and public relations), Mr Eka A Suripto, said the MATTA fair would be the start of VIY promotions in Malaysia.

This year, Indonesia hopes to attract some one million Malaysians, an increase of 300,000 more visitors compared to the 2007 target. Malaysia is the second largest market for Indonesia after Singapore.
