CARLSON Hotels Worldwide - Asia Pacific will manage seven new properties under the Radisson, The Regent and Park Plaza brands in Thailand, scheduled to open this year and next.

Of the seven, four will be located in Bangkok. They are the 436-room Radisson Hotel Bangkok Sathorn, 162-room Radisson Suites Bangkok Sukhumvit, 328-room The Regent Bangkok and 120-room Park Plaza Bangkok Asoke.

The group will have two hotels in Phuket, the 205-room Radisson Plaza Resort Phuket Panwa Beach, and 106-room The Regent Phuket Cape Panwa, and one in Krabi, the  164-room Radisson Resort and Spa.

Carlson Hotels started to expand in Thailand aggressively since last year with the opening of the 95-room Park Plaza Sukhumvit Bangkok in December. Prior to that, it launched its first property, the 448-room Radisson Hotel Bangkok under a franchise agreement, several years ago.

Park Plaza Sukhumvit Bangkok general manager, Mr Magne Hansen, said the expansion was geared to capture the growing tourism industry in Asia-Pacific, where the hotel chain will have a strong presence in China (nine hotels now, and six under development) and India (24 hotels now, and 35 under development).

The seven new hotels under development in Thailand are among the 56 new properties slated to open in seven countries across Asia-Pacific - in China, India, Maldives, Philippines, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan - between this year and 2010.
