THE Cambodian government signed a joint venture with Indonesia's Rajawali Group yesterday to set up a new Cambodian national airline..

Cambodian newspapers have reported that the airline, which has yet to be named, will be established with a US$50 million in startup capital with the Cambodian government holding a 51 per cent stake.

It will replace the defunct Royal Air Cambodge, which was liquidated in 2001.

Cambodia deputy prime minister, Mr Sok An, said: “This time the national carrier can be much larger than the last oneand can be much more profitable due to the recent increase in tourism (arrivals).”

It is not known when the airline will begin flying and which routes it will cover, except that it is considering using new Boeing aircraft models 737, 757 and 767.
