ASTON International Hotels, Resorts & Residences is expecting to open 23 new hotels with different categories in Indonesia this year, nine of which are in Bali, with a total of 3,012 rooms.

In addition, nine more properties are expected to open in 2010 with a total of 1461 rooms.

Vice-president sales and marketing, Mr Norbert Vas, said: “The political and economic stability in Indonesia in the last few years has created confidence among local investors to put their money in projects at home.

“Besides, selling hotel and apartment units to individuals and getting professionals to help in the management seem to be the right business scheme here. Investors will get a quick return of investment and individual owners also benefit (from owning a business without running it).

“The only hampering factor in this crisis is that banks are very careful in releasing funds and this may delay opening schedules,” he said.

Developments are not only concentrated in Jakarta and Bali, but also in secondary destinations such as Manado, Balikpapan, Samarinda and Ambon.
