A LARGE Taiwanese corporate group has picked Perth as venue for its incentive travel later this year, a piece of good news in the current economic doldrums and one that's worth A$2.33 million (US$1.49 million) to the city's local economy.

Perth Convention Bureau (PCB) said it beat off competition from Cairns in Queensland for the business.

A total of 700 delegates would arrive in staggered groups in October and November, each staying six nights.

PCB declined to name the group, one of the bigger groups it has secured.

The bureau's managing director, Ms Christine Mclean, said: “This is a wonderful win for Western Australia and represents the kind of high-yield business that is a key focus of our tourism minister in the wake of the global economic slowdown.”
