GARUDA Indonesia has signed a leasing agreement with Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) Capital for eight new Boeing 737-800NGs, which is scheduled to start delivery in June.

The agreement, signed yesterday in Jakarta, is for “sales and leaseback” (DAE Capital bought the aircraft and leased it to Garuda) for 10 years. The total investment for the eight aircraft is about US$360 million, according to Garuda president and CEO, Mr Emirsyah Satar.

The new aircraft will be utilised for expanding domestic and regional services. Mr Satar said: “The new aircraft with the new technology is about 18 per cent more efficient in operating cost than the old once.”

He added the co-operation would help the airline expand businesses and develop  business potential in the region, and expected more agreements to follow.

Garuda has placed an order of 50 B737-800NGs and 10 B777-300ERs, which are scheduled to start delivery next year.
