New Amex programme  to cut clients' costs

Sirima Eamtako, Bangkok (2009-10-09)

AMERICAN Express Business Travel (Amex) will launch a new cost-saving programme to help corporate clients deal with rising costs, particularly airfares.

Steven Ler, head - global supplier relations for ASEAN, Japan, Asia
Pacific and Australia, said airfares posed the biggest challenge in
its efforts to save clients costs - business class tickets could take
up about 65 per cent of the total corporate travel budget and economy
class fares about 50 per cent.

"There is a need to consolidate all these costs and we are looking at
what the suppliers are doing now that demand is slowly returning. We
notice most airlines are increasing airfares for next year while
maintaining the same capacity."

Amex will launch a Preferred Extra programme to save costs for
corporate clients and particularly for its mid-market clientele, which
represents about 30 per cent of the overall client base.
