Etihad resumes Sri Lanka flights

Singapore (2009-10-19)

ETIHAD Airways will resume its Abu Dhabi-Colombo service in January next year, over two years after it suspended flights to Sri Lanka in 2007.

The four-times weekly service will operate an Airbus A320 aircraft carrying 20 passengers in business class and 120 in economy.

The renewal of the service comes as visitors return to the island following the end of its civil war earlier in May.

July and August saw a 30 per cent increase in visitors compared to the same period last year, while the Sri Lanka government has set a target of 2.5 million annual visitors by 2016.

Colombo will be the Etihad's 58th destination upon the launch of the service next year.
