Taiwan tempts Asian markets with social media contest

TAIWAN’S Bureau of Foreign Trade and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) jointly launched yesterday the IT Travelers Go! contest to promote Taiwanese travel and lifestyle technology among consumers in Indonesia, India and Vietnam.


Interested participants in Indonesia, India and Vietnam have to upload personal photos and videos to the contest website, and canvass for votes from supporters and the general public.


Four of the top individual entries from each country will be selected to team up and compete against similar groups from the other two countries, while on a 21-day tour of Indonesia, India, Vietnam and Taiwan.


The teams will each be provided with 17 information and communication tecnology (ICT) gadgets from leading Taiwanese brands. How creatively the teams use the ICT devices, and how well they demonstrate their social media skills to send daily updates to friends and followers back home, will decide the winner of the US$20,000 top prize.


TAITRA Jakarta director, James Chen, said: “IT Travelers Go! is part of Taiwan Excellence’s ongoing efforts to make technology come to life for consumers. The contest is open to anybody who likes the idea of travelling in Asia with exciting gadgets.”


The contest is open for public registration at, from now till August 9.
