More FIT bookings from Singapore for Hokkaido

Karen Yue, Singapore (2010-06-01)

GROWING traveller independence has given rise to FIT bookings to Hokkaido, Japan among Singaporeans.

Farmosa Holiday Tour managing director Allan Tee said more Singaporean holidaymakers were booking flights and hotels only for Hokkaido, as compared to the past when Hokkaido was largely a destination for group tours.

“Many hotels in Hokkaido are now providing free shuttle around the city, making it very convenient for travellers to get around on their own if they want too. Younger Singaporeans are also far more adventurous now and are willing to explore the destination on their own with a self-drive holiday,” Tee said.

A product manager with a leading travel agency in Singapore echoed the observation, saying that Hokkaido was no longer just attracting families for the popular year-end winter season. The mid- year also saw more bookings from families and FITs.

Farmosa Holiday Tour sales and marketing manager James Wong said that other “remote” destinations, such as Kyushu where travellers usually visited as part of tour groups, were also seeing a rise in FIT and self-drive bookings.
