RENDEZVOUS Hospitality Group (RHG) launched its first Telepresence room yesterday at the Rendezvous Hotel Singapore, in partnership with Tata Communications.

The advanced video-conferencing facility is also Singapore's first public Telepresence room.

The Telepresence room, which seats up to 18 people at a time, allows businessmen to engage in high-definition video-conferencing without having to travel. It uses a fully secure network to ensure privacy.

Users can connect to 13 Tata Communications public Telepresence rooms worldwide, including Australia, the Philippines and India.

Rate per hour is S$550 (US$391) and Tata Communications concierges can help users schedule, reserve and launch calls.

RHG CEO, Iqbal Jumabhoy, said: “By opening the first Telepresence public room in Singapore, RHG will be able to offer a unique service to the many business travellers who frequent Singapore... and for local businesses to communicate with offices and associates around the world. Executives can be here, there and everywhere without going through the hassle and stress of international travel and can reduce their carbon footprint.”

RHG has started to explore additional public Telepresence rooms in its Australia and China properties, while Tata Communications is planning to add 25 new public Telepresence rooms within the year.
