SRILANKAN Airlines will begin services to Bangalore in winter 2002, subject to the conclusion of a commercial agreement with Indian Airlines.

At bilateral talks with Indian Aviation Authorities in New Delhi this week, SriLankan Aviation Authorities obtained rights for SriLankan to fly thrice a week to Bangalore, provided the airline also operates to Buddha Gaya, in Bihar, in central India.

As a result, SriLankan will operate an extra service to New Delhi in combination with Buddha Gaya from winter 2002. The Colombo/New Delhi/Buddha Gaya service will be a seasonal service operating only during the winter season.

In another development, SriLankan Aviation Authorities also obtained rights for SriLankan to fly an additional service to Trichy, subject to the conclusion of a commercial agreement with Indian Airlines.

At present, the carrier flies to five Indian destinations - New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Trichy and Trivandrum.
