Philippine president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has ordered the Nayong Pilipino (Philippine Village) theme park to be bulldozed to make way for the ongoing expansion of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

A 8.6-hectare portion of the park will be redeveloped as part of a third-passenger terminal at Manila airport, a palace statement said.

The park was in the way of a required parallel taxiway and road surface connection between the new terminal and the existing one, it added.

Some 80 per cent of the park, which was created in 1972, will be obliterated.

Manila airport"s third-passenger terminal is scheduled to open in November this year.
