INDONESIA President Megawati Soekarnoputri will open PATA Conference, which takes place in Bali from April 13 to 17. Indonesian Organising Committee chairman, Mr Setyanto Santosa, said: “This will underscore the importance given to the event by the Indonesian government.”

Mr Setyanto, who has just returned from the third co-ordinating meeting with officials of PATA headquarter in earlier this week, told TTG Asia: “Bali is ready and is very enthusiastic in welcoming the delegates. This is a very important event, the first international tourism conference after the tragedy.”

Between 800 and 1,000 delegates from 30 countries are expected to participate in the conference.“What is lacking is the participants from other parts of Indonesia. I have proposed (PATA Bali Chapter) do a road show to the regions and invite the industry members to participate in the event.

“I understand even with 50 per cent discount on registration fee, US$450 is a lot of money for Indonesians, but I hope at least the trade association heads will come.”

Indonesia targets 200 local participants.
