Gulf Air starts KolkataBahrain flights

GULF Air operated its inaugural flight to Kolkata on November 25, signalling the commencement of twice-weekly services between Bahrain and the capital of West Bengal.

Operated under a commercial agreement with Indian Airlines, the flight depart Bahrain on GF278 every Tuesday and Friday at 21.00, arriving in Kolkata at 05.35. There is a one-hour transit stop in Muscat.

Flights from Kolkata will leave as GF279 every Wednesday and Saturday at 06.30 and arrive in Muscat at 09.35, to depart at 10.15 for arrival in Bahrain at 10.50 local time.

The addition of Kolkata to the Gulf Air schedule brings the number of destinations served by the airline in India to seven. Gulf Air already operates frequent flights to Mumbai, Delhi, Kochi, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram and most recently, Bangalore.

Speaking about the introduction of flights to Kolkata, Gulf Air network vice-president, Mr Fareed Al Alawi, said: “(The venture) offers new opportunities to consolidate and complement the historic ties and the strong relationship between Gulf Air's owning states and India...Our active expansion into this market demonstrates our commitment to extend the services we offer into the subcontinent.”
