IMEX organisers will aim for a better spread of buyers after this year's show produced only 250 buyers, out of 2,800 buyers, from outside western Europe.

IMEX chairman, Mr Ray Bloom said: “This is an area we will be concentrating on for 2005 to deliver buyers from the all important long-haul destinations of the US, Asia, Australia and South America.”

Mr Bloom identified Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong as source market for more buyers. “Though honestly with the Asian outbound market expanding rapidly again we are looking for quality buyers from throughout Asia,” he said. But out of the 10 airline partners already signed up for 2005, none are from Asia. European and US carriers dominate.

One of the problems with this year's show was the fact it was placed in two halls, two levels away from each other, much to the dismay of exhibitors in the smaller hall which was virtually empty.

In 2005, IMEX will move to Hall 8 of Messe Frankfurt allowing all the exhibitors to be on one level and giving the show room to grow. Mr Bloom said: “Hall 8 has 37,000m2 which is double the size of the hall we are using now. That is not an indication of how large I think the show will be in 2005, but it does give IMEX a permanent home and room to expand.”

IMEX 2004 closed with final figures of 2,500 exhibitors from 130 countries and 2,800 hosted buyers, compared with 2,200 exhibitors and 2,570 hosted buyers in 2003.IMEX 2005 will be held from April 19-21.
