MPs urge airport overhaul
Jakarta

Jakarta
(11th Jun 2004)

PARLIAMENT members have urged the government and Jakarta airport authority, Angkasa Pura II, to improve service, convenience and comfort at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

At a recent hearing with the authorities, parliament member, Mr Syahrial Agamas urged the department of communications and airport authority to move Lion Air's operation to Jakarta's other airport, Halim Perdanakusumah.

“The rapid growth of the airline's passengers, many of whom are new budget-conscience travellers has caused discomfort of other passengers, especially in Terminal 2F,” he said.

Lion, which handles between 15,000 and 17,000 passengers daily, shares the terminal with Garuda Indonesia.

Other parliament member asked Angkasa Pura II to improve health facilities and services at the airport by enlarging the quarantine clinic.
