CAMBODIA is well on its way to a goal of one million arrivals this year with a total of 323,414 international visitors recorded from January to April, an increase of 17 per cent over the same period in 2002.

In the first four months of 2002 arrivals had totalled 276,447 and in April 2003 the total stood at 245,986. Air arrivals during the month of April 2004 showed an increase of 16 per cent over 2002 and accounted for 66 per cent of total visitors during that month.

Asian arrivals topped the list with Japan and Korea contributing more than 40,000 visitors each, followed by Taiwan at 16,000 and China at 15,000. More than 30,000 visitors arrived from the US, and the UK and France each contributed more than 20,000.

Meanwhile infrastructure in the capital is improving, with a US$4-million project to repair the major thoroughfares and some busy side streets of Phnom Penh expected to start later this year.
